Specifications
Everything RadioBook does, screen by screen.
A full breakdown of every feature currently shipping — no marketing gloss, just what each screen actually does and how it works.
Radios & Channels
- Add each radio you own as its own entry, then log its channels underneath — frequency, offset, tone, mode, and power, whatever fields your radio's manual actually uses
- Link a printed barcode to a radio; the Scan button in the home screen's bottom-left corner jumps straight to whatever you scan
- An optional frequency range per radio (e.g. 136–174 / 400–520 MHz)
- Tap any callsign anywhere in the app to open it directly on QRZ.com
Go Boxes
- A second home-screen tab: make a box, tick which radios are in it, and link a printed barcode to it — scanning that barcode opens the box and lists what's inside
- A barcode belongs to one radio or one box, never both
Presets & CHIRP
- Name your own presets per radio (JOTA, SKYWARN…), started from the radio's current channels (MAIN), another preset, or empty — tap one to switch the channel list
- Share a preset or MAIN to another radio, or MAIN to all of your radios at once
- Export for CHIRP saves the selected channel set as a CHIRP .csv to import and upload from a computer; dragging channels into a new order renumbers them to match
InventoryBook
- Works with InventoryBook, the barcode inventory app: it can bring your Go Boxes over as boxes and your radios as items, and tapping a radio there opens its channels here
- Same account for both apps; only apps signed with the same key can read your radios — nothing else on the phone can
Logbook
- Log contacts against any radio — callsign, frequency, mode, time, notes
- Contacts logged during a POTA activation on Transmit Map show up here automatically, tagged with the park reference
- A search box for finding a contact by callsign, name, notes, or POTA reference
- Export the whole log as ADIF (POTA fields included) for other logging software, or as CSV for a spreadsheet
Phone Book
- A separate contacts list for the people you talk to regularly — not tied to any one QSO, just a quick reference
Band Conditions
- 10 meter propagation rated from live solar flux index and K-index data, not a static guess
- A terrain-aware range calculator for 2m/70cm — estimates how far your signal actually reaches given the ground between you and the other station, from a saved location or your current one
- An optional home-screen widget shows current conditions without opening the app
Transmit Map
One map, replacing what used to be three separate screens (DX Map, DX Spots list, Coverage Map).
- Live DX cluster spots, plotted as great-circle lines color-coded by band, each band toggleable on or off
- A real day/night grayline overlay, computed from actual solar position rather than a fixed image — it moves as the day does
- A real USGS topo layer — actual elevation contour lines and shaded relief, toggleable alongside the default dark basemap
- POTA (Parks on the Air) — see who's activating a park right now on a live layer, or tap any park (or type its reference) to activate it yourself; contacts you log during an activation land in your regular Logbook, already POTA-tagged and ADIF-ready
- Tap-anywhere elevation & roads search — pick a point and a radius, and it scans real USGS elevation data across that area, cross-checks real OpenStreetMap road and trail data, and marks the 3 best, well-separated high points you could actually park or walk to, each with one-tap navigation to your phone's own maps app
- Community repeaters and towers — add one with full programming info (frequency, offset, tone, mode, power), marked public (every RadioBook user sees it) or private (only you, enforced on the server, not just hidden on your phone)
- Every layer has an always-visible toggle chip, or manage them all from a full-screen Map Layers menu
Net Schedules
- A real calendar view — mark any net you run or check into, with custom recurrence: weekly, biweekly, monthly by weekday, or monthly by date
- Each net gets its own color so a busy week is easy to scan at a glance
- Notification reminders before a net starts, which survive a phone reboot
Repeaters
- Import your repeater list from a CSV file
- Or sync live from your own installed RepeaterBook app, if you have it — no manual re-entry
Themes
- Six "Signal Lab" color palettes, styled after classic scope and lab-instrument phosphors — Cyan/Amber, Phosphor Green, Amber Monochrome, Magenta Lab, Red Avionics, and Ice White
- Switch anytime from Settings — every screen retints instantly, app-wide, no restart needed
Navigation
- The ☰ menu is grouped into sections (Operate, Reference, Data, Account) instead of one flat list — drag any item's handle to reorder it within its own section
- A "Recent" row above the menu jumps back to your last few screens in one tap
- A short first-time walkthrough runs after your first login — replay it any time from ☰ → Replay Welcome Tour
- Search boxes on the home radio list and the Logbook
Accounts
- A free account backs up your radios, channels, logbook, and settings — your data stays useful even if you switch phones
- Reachable by anyone, no invite or approval needed — sign up and go
- Radios and channels themselves always work fully offline; an account just adds backup on top
Permissions
- Location — for Band Conditions' range calculator and to center Transmit Map on you; the elevation/roads search runs from wherever you tap instead, and POTA's state lookup uses the map's own position via a free FCC API, not your GPS
- Camera — for the barcode scanner and for scanning a shared radio's QR code, only while those screens are open
- Notifications — for net reminders you've set up
- Internet — for DX spots, POTA, elevation/roads data, community repeaters, band conditions, and account sync
What's being explored
No commitments or dates here on purpose — just honestly what's on my mind, including the ones that might not work out. See the changelog for what's actually shipped.
- Live DMR listening — shipped in v1.11, then pulled back out days later. BrandMeister's Hoseline feed blocks any client that isn't their own official web player, so this is on hold until there's a workaround or a different feed to use
- Multi-device live sync for accounts, instead of the current snapshot-backup model — bigger change, no timeline
- A satellite pass tracker alongside Transmit Map
